Clinical governance

Built on a clear framework. Accountable at every level.

Me-Aware is a mental health assessment and triage platform operating within a defined clinical governance framework. This page sets out how we manage clinical scope, safety, data, and accountability — so that organisations deploying Me-Aware can do so with confidence.

Our approach

Governance is not a checkbox. It is how we operate.

Me-Aware sits at the intersection of technology and mental health — a space that demands clarity about what the platform does, what it does not do, and how it behaves when someone is in distress. Our governance framework exists to answer those questions with precision, not marketing language.

This framework is designed to give government agencies, EAP providers, insurers, and enterprise HR teams the assurance they need to deploy Me-Aware within their organisations — and to give individuals using the platform confidence that it has been built with their safety as the primary concern.

Clinical scope

What Me-Aware does — and does not do.

Clarity about clinical scope is not a legal disclaimer. It is how responsible digital mental health tools protect the people who use them. Me-Aware is explicit about its boundaries so that users, deploying organisations, and clinicians understand exactly where the platform operates and where it hands off to human professionals.

Within scope

Structured mental health, financial wellbeing, social connection, and physical health self-assessment across 18 validated dimensionsGeneration of individualised wellbeing reports with personalised recommendations and resource referralsAnonymous population-level aggregation and dashboard reporting for deploying organisationsTriage and referral — connecting individuals to appropriate professional support pathways based on assessed needCrisis flag detection with immediate escalation to crisis resources and emergency services informationLongitudinal tracking of individual and population wellbeing trends over time

Outside scope

Clinical diagnosis of any mental health condition — Me-Aware does not diagnose and cannot be used as a diagnostic toolTreatment — Me-Aware does not provide therapy, counselling, psychiatric care, or any clinical interventionCrisis management — the platform identifies distress signals and directs to crisis services; it does not manage acute crises directlyPrescription or medication advice of any kindStorage of personally identifiable information — all individual data is anonymised at point of collectionReplacement of professional mental health care — Me-Aware is a triage and awareness tool, not a substitute for clinical services

Safety first

How Me-Aware responds when someone is in distress.

Crisis detection is built into the assessment at the platform level — not as an afterthought. The following protocol applies whenever the system detects indicators of acute distress or suicidal ideation.

01 — Detect

Flag identification

Specific response patterns across the assessment trigger automatic crisis flags. These are embedded at the question level — not reviewed post-completion.

02 — Interrupt

Immediate response

The assessment flow is interrupted. The individual receives a compassionate, plain-language message acknowledging what they may be experiencing and directing them to immediate help.

03 — Refer

Crisis resource provision

Region-specific crisis services are surfaced immediately — Lifeline, 988, Samaritans, and local emergency numbers — with direct contact links and encouragement to reach out now.

04 — Log

Anonymised incident record

A de-identified crisis event is logged for governance review. No personally identifiable information is retained. Deploying organisations receive aggregate crisis event data in their dashboard.

Data governance

Privacy is not a feature. It is the foundation.

Me-Aware is designed from the ground up so that individuals can complete an honest assessment without fear that their responses will be linked back to them. This is not a legal footnote — it is a core design principle, because assessments are only useful if people answer truthfully, and people only answer truthfully if they trust the platform.

HelpNet operates in compliance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act 2017, and applicable state health privacy legislation. Organisations deploying Me-Aware in other jurisdictions receive data processing documentation appropriate to their regulatory environment on request.

No PII collected or retainedMe-Aware does not collect names, email addresses, employee IDs, or any other personally identifiable information during the assessment. Completion is fully anonymous.

Aggregate only for organisationsDeploying organisations receive population-level dashboards only. Individual response data is never accessible to employers, EAP providers, or any third party.

Data hosted in AustraliaAll data is stored on Australian infrastructure. HelpNet does not transfer assessment data offshore. Server environment is maintained on VentraIP’s Australian hosting infrastructure.

Notifiable data breach complianceHelpNet operates under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. In the event of a breach affecting assessment data, affected organisations are notified within the statutory timeframe.

Incident management

When something goes wrong, we have a process.

A platform operating in the mental health space must have a clear, documented process for managing clinical incidents — not because they are expected, but because the absence of a process is itself a governance failure. The following categories of incident are subject to formal review under HelpNet’s incident management protocol.

ACrisis flag eventsAny session that triggers the crisis detection protocol is logged, reviewed for system accuracy, and used to refine detection thresholds on a quarterly basis.BAssessment integrity concernsReports of assessment content perceived as harmful, triggering, or clinically inaccurate are escalated for review and corrective action within 5 business days.CData security incidentsAny confirmed or suspected unauthorised access to assessment data triggers immediate containment, followed by investigation and notification in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.DReferral pathway failuresWhere a recommended support pathway is found to be unavailable, inaccurate, or inappropriate, the referral library is updated and the issue is documented for governance record.

Assessment validity

The evidence base behind what we measure.

The Me-Aware assessment model was developed against established mental health measurement frameworks and validated through real-world deployment across 25,000 assessments in 14 countries. The 18 dimensions assessed reflect the biopsychosocial model of mental health — recognising that wellbeing is shaped by biological, psychological, social, financial, and environmental factors simultaneously, not in isolation.
